Some of the widest doors that have opened for me and the greatest opportunities to make an impact, came when servitude was my main objective. I once sent a private message to a complete stranger on LinkedIn to thank him for the quality posts that he kept sharing on LinkedIn and expected nothing in return. I didn't even add him as a contact. I just wanted to thank him. He became a great mentor and 3 years later, he introduced me to CEO of a company where I ended up working at.
I once completely revamped someone's LinkedIn profile and resume, pro bono (something I have been doing for over 8 years). I had spent 10-12 hours working on both documents and was so happy I could help him because he didn't have the means to pay me. I wanted nothing in return.
Unbeknownst to me, he got in touch with a prominent businessman who has an exclusive and private club of business executives and asked me to be their keynote speaker at their next event. Someone in that audience then suggested me to a Real Estate Group as a speaker at their next event, which I did. Little did I know, that in that audience, my future boss was introduced to me!
Start with servitude.
The dots always end up connecting.
